I don’t think they are so easy to find in the stores, so I just get them online and that works fine.

I have a Senseo, and the pod does not fit in the tray, so you need to use the double pod tray and adapter for a single serving.

I use it at least a couple times a week when I want frothy milk on my cuppa joe.

They are the ones with the degrees of higher learning, training and the brain surgeries should be kept exactly there.

This is the opposite. There are no instructions included, but keep it simple:

1) Install AA batteries and close the cover ( not included )
2) Pour milk into a container ( I used 2% )
3) Press the on button to on position
4) let the milk aerate ( froth )

It only takes about 30 seconds and you should move the head of the mixer from the bottom up.

I add my coffee to it, but if you like syrup add that before the coffee ( about a shot glass full ). ( I have a sweet tooth, but don’t need to add sugar after the syrup)

Very cheap in price, but not in design and so worth it.

I will not be going to a coffee shop in the near future

My latte cost me about $.50 compared to about $4.50 for the same coffee.

It has a brain, is lightweight, compact, totally automatic and very easy to use in particular in little spaces. This battery charger will keep the battery wholly charged so that it is ready to go always. It has a microprocessor controlled to the full or entire extent automatic charger and maintainer and is designed to extend the life of any lead acid battery normally applied in automobiles, motorcycles, ATVs, personal watercraft, RVs, boats, airplanes, golf carts, back-up generator systems, etc. Any vehicle or battery-operated piece of instrumentation not applied on a each day or regular basis is a nominee for a Battery Tender charger. The modern engineering science will fetch the battery back to a full charge without overcharging and then float or maintain the battery for an indefinite amount of time of time. The Tender Plus (1.25) will get the job done twice as fast as the Tender Jr. (0.75). Both now are similar architecturally, save it be the charging power & lack of temperature compensation on the Jr. They both are 4 stage, both have the same sophisticated computer chip technology running the charging process, etc… I spoke to The Deltran(The Manufacturer) customer service department on 3 different occasions, making sure I had the facts right. The first 2 times I was misinformed about the temperature compensation issue. I am editing this review to be accurate as of today’s date of 12/01/10. Because The Plus will bring a battery to full charge twice as quickly as The Jr. will, The Plus has a much better chance at overcoming a parasitic draw on your batteries power. Modern cars have sophisticated electronics that require constant power 24/7. Check all your battery connections & your alternator belt!!! If the connections are not clean & tight, clean it with original coca-cola and a rag / brush, make sure they fit snugly. If your alternator belt is too loose it will not charge your battery properly. If you only want to buy one Tender, don’t cheap out, buy The Plus if you have the money to do so. If you want to buy 2 or 3 Tenders to make sure all your batteries are fully charged, the Jr. will probably do just fine. I personally alternate The Jr. between 3 different cars, if I had it to do over again, I would buy The Plus instead as I am not a patient person. Both models will turn off in 72 hours automatically if a full charge is not reached, & neither will start charging without at least 3 volts stored in the battery before initiating a charge. If you left your lights on for 4 days like I did, get a jump, & drive your car around for 30 minutes before hooking up any Tender to charge your dead battery. Either of these 2 Battery Tenders are the best in the world, don’t bother doing anymore research, I have done it all for you. Buy one or buy both!!! I bought The Plus model a few months ago also… These babies save you $$$, time & frustration!!! Get the 25 foot extension if you want to charge a car that sits in the driveway, it’s only $12. You might also want to buy the Cigarette Lighter Apapter to charge cars that have the battery in the trunk, like the BMW E39 models. [...]

(Watch out for old 3-step unit.)
By dallas7
January 2011 update: I’ve had one hooked up to my 2003 Chevy S-10 since July 2008 and another to my 2004 Kawasaki Z1000 since February 2008. The S-10 has an Optima battery installed August 2006 and the Kawasaki a Deka installed August 2008. Both of these batteries are premium quality and represent the finest in their class available to the average consumer. Nonetheless, I am certain the BT Jr. is the primary reason the Optima retains 81% of cranking health and the Deka 71%. (Search my other reviews for the Argus BB-SBM12 and BB-SBM12-PS Battery Bug monitors as to the source of those percentages.)

As for the 3-step model… It’s doubtful you’ll ever run into one of these now. Unless it’s dust and grime encrusted, hanging on a hook in that truck stop 2 miles off I40 in Two Guns, AZ.

Temperature compensation doesn’t seem to have been as critical as I might have expected.

ORIGINAL REVIEW July 2008:
There are two things you need to consider when purchasing this item.

First, unlike its big brother, the Plus, the Junior is not temperature compensated. To find out more about that, go to batterytender.com, click on the FAQs link on the left and read item #18: “What is Temperature Compensation and how important is it?”

I was concerned about this, as living in the desert as I do, the temperature in my garage is 90 to 130 degrees most of the year and can drop to the 50s in the winter. I inquired about this to Battery Tender support and received this answer: “The Junior is not a temperature compensating unit, however, when the temperature is hotter, the unit will actually charge the battery a bit faster and it will not harm the battery.” I don’t know what to make of this, especially since compensation is so important according to their FAQ.

The other is to make sure you get the 4-step Junior which replaced the 3-step over a year and a half ago. On the back side of the packaging on the left side look for the reference to “Complete 4-step.”

That being said, I’ve been using a Junior for almost 6 months on my motorcycle so I can’t post up my experience as well as others here. I’m hoping it will provide my batteries with more service than the 14-16 months I’m used to.

By popular acclaim and editorial content, the Junior and the Plus have garnered untarnished reputations and withstood the test of time. For maintaining your battery, there really isn’t anything else out there.

And it is maintaining my battery fine, no more dead car.

That’s changed.

I took a second look at Nespresso when the Pixie came out, but after using the Pixie in the store on multiple occasions, I wouldn’t purchase it. (Please see my Pixie review). I instead purchased the Citiz.

It’s a great machine, producing consistent quality coffee from cup to cup with a lovely crema at the top. When you test the coffees, read the descriptions, and look for the intensity numbers (which can be found in the descriptions and on the sleeve which contains the capsules). If you can get the brochure with a wheel on the back page, it gives you acidity and bitterness ratings for each blend. I found that I do not like the “citrus” and “flowery” blends, but prefer the more intense blends which are still not bitter.

A couple of tips:

if you want more of an Americano, brew as directed for the different varieties, then eject the capsule and do another shot of just water. If you attempt to put too much water through the capsules, you will increase bitterness of the coffee.

don’t forget to preheat your cups…. run a shot of just hot water through the machine and use it to warm your cup. Doing this will also prime the pump of the machine which will give you a hotter first cup of coffee.

In case you are curious: my favorite blends: Roma, Arpeggio, Fortissimo Longo, Vivalto Longo, Capriccio (lighter for a change, and this was OK with a little more water).

*** Update 12/21/11 ***

The limited edition flavors for this season are: Vanilla Blossom, Dark Chocolate, and Cherry. To my surprise, I liked the Vanilla the best (and I thought it would be the Dark Chocolate). I purchased both the Cherry and Vanilla. They are all worth trying. They are produced in small quantities, so when they are gone, I don’t believe they will be available any longer.

Also, if you haven’t seen the videos which Nespresso has put on line to advertise the special flavors of the season, they are fabulous!

Enjoy!

Lived in Europe for many years and enjoyed the coffee everyday. Since returning, it’s been difficult to find the right machine, coffee, grind, etc., with a busy life. After an extended stay in Switzerland several years ago and running into this machine at many friend’s homes and in the cities, it seemed like a great way to enjoy really good espresso at home.

This coffee machine meets all expectations for taste, convenience, design, cost, and even sustainability, if you believe the literature. It’s also a very aesthetic experience. After buying the machine locally, we ordered pods through the Nespresso Club. They came beautifully packaged with a nice storage box. The colors of the pods are quite lovely, the included book was fascinating with appealing illustrations, and it is very sweetly translated. The machine works like a dream, and the coffee tastes great. Not to mention the tiny footprint of the coffee maker on the countertop. Very enthusiastic about this coffee maker. Forget Starbucks with it’s syrups and sugar that covers up the taste of inferior coffee. Just go Nespresso for wonderful fresh, high-quality coffee at home that’s certainly much cheaper in the long run!

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful.
Beautiful
By Daniel G. Lebryk
The CitiZ Nespresso machine is a beautiful, simple, small, and well designed espresso maker.

This machine does exactly one thing, and does it extremely well; it makes the best darn espresso. There are two buttons one for espresso the other for lungo. Essentially they are two different timers; lungo runs the pump for a longer time. These buttons are easily programmed to longer or shorter delivery times.

In use, there is nothing easier. Lift the black handle on the top of the machine. Drop a Nespresso capsule into the slot. Close the lever down. Press the button for the size of drink. When finished, lift the lever and the used capsule drops in a clear plastic reservoir (seen just behind the cup of espresso in the product picture).

From cold machine to a cup of espresso is roughly 1.5 minutes. Warm up time is around a minute, and brew time for the cup is about 30 seconds. Couldn’t be faster, couldn’t be easier.

On to the quality. You will never ever drink a better cup of espresso at Starbucks or Caribou, you can’t. They make those drinks in paper cups and by definition the espresso can’t be as good. There is nothing like drinking from a ceramic cup, it enhances the flavor more than you can imagine. You cannot mess up making the espresso. The capsule is hermetically sealed in aluminum; there is absolutely no air exchange, unlike plastic or paper containers. There is no need to refrigerate or freeze these capsules – they do not deteriorate due to air exchange. Nespresso has solved some of the most critical variables in making espresso, fineness of coffee grind, roast time and temperature, preventing air from interacting with the coffee, pressure and temperature of the water, and brew residence time. Each cup tastes exactly the same one after the other.

The espresso itself. Oh my goodness, I have spent a lot of time in Italy drinking espresso at corner cafes. Nespresso is as good as, if not better than, anything I ever had in Italy. It is the rare US or Canadian restaurant that can brew a better espresso. Nespresso has become the gold standard by which I judge espresso when I travel. The crema on these drinks is amazing – thick, rich, and perfect.

This machine is a replacement for a six year old Nespresso model D290. This lovely machine made maybe 15,000 espressos, it was incredibly reliable, up until a few weeks ago, it started to act strange not wanting to heat when first turned on. The only maintenance was descaling the machine every 6 months. I expect the CitiZ to last just as long.

Admittedly I am addicted to this machine, the espresso. Two to three espressos per day is my standard, and my wife usually has one or two lungos per day. Hopefully you can understand that I love this machine, and I love this espresso. This is far superior to any other “on demand” coffee makers, this machine makes real espresso.

Noise – yes this machine makes noise. The CitiZ is slightly quieter than the older models, but it still makes noise. ALL mechanical espresso machines make noise; there is no way around that problem (you have to pump the water to reach the 90 some odd PSI to make real espresso). To me, this machine makes the most beautiful noise ever. It’s a solid heavy pump sound, not some wimpy whiny noise. It’s also so beautiful because my mind knows what is coming next, a great cup of espresso.

The real competitor to this machine, the Illy line, and $1000 true ground espresso machines. Here’s the huge downside to those machines – the Illy machines are well over $750, and the cartridges are paper wrapped (so once you open the can, you need to use all those cartridges quickly – air is ground coffee’s worst enemy). The ground coffee versions, you have a long warm up time to build heat and pressure in the vessel, you have to grind your own coffee, there’s a huge variable introduced in grind size and coffee packing, and you have messy coffee grounds to clean up.

When you compare this machine to the alternatives for real espresso, this is a cheap machine. Add the convenience, and this is a no brainer choice to me. The one downside to this machine and all the Nespresso machines, you have to buy your coffee from Nestle directly over the internet or phone. Nobody else makes these capsules. Myself, I simply buy 500 at a time and watch my supply. From ordering to delivery is usually 3 days.

One of my biggest concerns in buying this was the longevity of Nestle producing these capsules. I think they will produce these for a long time in the future. The machine dates back to 1986. It is very popular in Europe. The capsule they use is a commodity aluminum capsule that is used by a number of other industries – in other words, Nestle buys these formed aluminum capsules, fills them, and seals them. There is no proprietary container, unlike the other two popular beverages on demand machines. Nestlé’s investment in capsule manufacture and distribution (all 100% internet or phone based with no marketing in the US) is really small for a great return to them.

Visiting Italians have told me this is the best espresso they have ever had in the US. And my wife, who rarely ever drank brewed coffee, looks forward to her lungo every morning.

If you are looking for that special $100 arena, and only want an on-demand beverage maker, this is by far the best machine you can buy:
Bosch TAS4511UC Tassimo Single-Serve Coffee Brewer, Silk Silver – just remember, it makes great coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, tea – but it does not make espresso (no matter what anyone says or claims, it is incapable of doing that). They have fixed the awful sound of the original machine by working with Bosch.
The other alternative for just coffee making (no cappuccino or hot chocolate) Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System.

The perfect accessory for the CitiZ is the Aeroccino. This is well worth the approximately $100 investment, it makes perfect foamed milk with no skills required. (Nespresso Aeroccino Plus)

I chose the CitiZ without the foamer included in the kit because I like the tiny footprint of this machine. The additional space for the foamer on the base takes up a lot of counter space. I really like the simplicity of this model.

The Pixie is a newer model from Nespresso. I’m not as impressed with that machine. In real life, it doesn’t look as cool as this machine. The other option is the Essenza, pretty much the same internal parts as the CitiZ; it is just squat and doesn’t come in fun colors. Adjusting the cup height is a little more complicated with the Essenza. These machines have gotten less and less expensive over the years. My C290 list price was $600 almost 7 years ago. These new machines in the $200 price range are an outstanding value.

They have a durable locking design and the 5″ size will hold up to ~6 oz of wet (expanded) pellet hops. Significantly more durable and free-flowing than nylon bags.

My only complaint is the short-ish chain. A six inch longer chain would make this product worthy of a 5 star rating.

They have to be stainless steel – apparently this one was not, as after the third time I used it it fell apart in my hands while getting it open to dump the spices. The sides totally came apart. I do not recommend this to anyone using spices and vinegar in a brine.

Galligan
Love the Toddy brewing system. This is the second replacement container I’ve purchased. It tends to crack right around where the plug goes in. The first one we washed in the dishwasher, the second we were very careful with, but after we moved and took it back out we had the same problem. Hopefully this one will last longer than 1 year.

Wehrly
I love this coffee maker! We make a batch and it lasts nearly all week. Everyone can make it as strong or weak as they want. Start with milk, add concentrate and flavoring, microwave and whip it for my every morning latte! Also great for blended drinks when you want something cold. No coffee waste. No pouring part of pot down the drain! And with less acid, finicky stomachs seem to tolerate it. Added benefit: the grounds go out in a big batch for the plants. I had one of these years ago, before they had handles. The handle is a big plus. I’ve ordered 3 for various friends who like the concentrate. Used the concentrate on a recent camping trip. So much better than dry instant coffee!!! I recommend buying an extra plug and filter to have on hand.

I’ve seend some comments about the handle being a problem. I sure wouldn’t try to pick up the container when it’s full of liquid without supporting it with my other hand. If used with common sense, you shouldn’t have a problem.

Bodum Chambord 3 Cup French Press

When Bodum took over a little clarinet factory in Normandy in 1982, it was not because of the fine orchestra clarinets they were constructing but because of a comparatively unknown coffee maker called the Chambord which they invented as well. The reason the French press coffee maker has become one of the most general coffeemakers in the world is pure and simple, taste. The materials (glass and stainless steel) are completely taste-free so not one thing comes amid your ground coffee beans. This is precisely the reason why coffee tasters use this method to determine the quality of coffee beans. No paper filter not only means no waste, but that the coffee bean’s necessary oils go directly to your cup, delivering the flavor that is-lost on paper filters. Simplicity works best and is the reason why the Chambord’s design has not changed a bit from it is initial drawing. Make taste, not waste.

It’s simply the easiest and best way to extract maximum flavor from your finest beans (use a uniform grind slightly coarser than automatic drip). Some people even prefer it to espresso. It’s durable, easy to clean, and doesn’t require electricity.

One reviewer claimed they put the grounds and the water in the pot, immediately pushed the plunger and waited 10 minutes. However, they will get much better results if they wait 2-4 minutes (depending upon the coarseness of the grind) before plunging the coffee, and then drink it right away. I wouldn’t even let the coffee rest, plunged, in the pot for ten minutes, as it will become over-extracted.

As for the reviewer that whined about truth in advertising, all I can say is “Duh”. They themselves pointed out that the pot does make three espresso cups’ worth of brew. And if they watch what they are doing next time, instead of just trying to pour 12 oz. of hot water into something, they can avoid future unpleasant experiences. I actually make coffee for two “cappuccinos” with this model. If you don’t like your coffee as strong, you can simply add a little hot water to your cup after you have poured your coffee (like an Americano).

This one works real well– perfect for those coffee press users. Bodum is also a well known brand of coffee press, so you don’t have to worry about a flimsy product. Also if it breaks, Bodum is pretty good with spare parts. As a comsumer, I always recommend you shop around for the best price.

When using a coffee press, or any other coffee machine, make sure you FRESHLY grind your coffee for optimal taste. I recommend all serious coffee drinkers to invest in a good burr grinder– you really can taste the differnce. Also for a coffee press the ginds must be large and coarse in thickness, otherwise your pressed coffee will taste lousy– do not use automatic drip sized grinds. I also recommend a quality dark/French roast when using a press.

Please note that this press makes 3 French-sized cups of coffee. In Paris cafes, you’re served coffee in a press with a “bowl sized” cup half filled with steamed milk (Cafe Au Lait).

It IS a “3-cup” press — however, if you look around at the descriptions of various french presses found here, you will find that they all define a “cup” as 4 ounces. So, no, this 3-cup press, which is 12 ounces, is not going to brew enough coffee for 3 *mugs*. (And the 8-cup presses, which are 32 ounces, are not going to brew enough for 8 mugs.) The ones referred to as “3-cup” will brew about roughly mug’s worth of coffee. This particular press is at least as good as any other I’ve used, which is to say very good!
